Concentus is Latin, meaning harmony, concordance,
concord. These concepts have been the guidelines for the quartet since its
inception in 1990.
The for members Kristin Bjørhei, Lars Lien, Gisle
Haus and Espen Aslaksen are the first saxophonists in Norway who are
graduates of Norwegian State Academy of Music with chamber music as major
subject.
Throughout these years, the group has consistently
presented debut performances of works by contemporary Norwegian composers,
who often dedicate their works to the group. Saxofon Concentus has
established itself as one of the leading Norwegian contemporary ensembles
Saxofon Concentus has been praised by critics and
musicians alike both at home and abroad and has acquired the reputation of
playing in the closest harmony with an unsurpassed homogenity and musical
nerve. As a critic wrote "... you would think they had one and the
same nervous system.
